The authors of the paper under review study the specialization of torsion line bundles on a variety defined over \(\mathbb Q\), to ideal classes of Number Fields. In this way they construct number fields whose class group has large torsion, from varieties over \(\mathbb Q\) whose Picard group has large torsion. At the end they give a positive answer to a question of \textit{A. Agboola} and \textit{G. Pappas} [Math. Res. Lett. 7, No. 5--6, 709--717 (2000; Zbl 1029.14008)].
