The authors consider three degenerate mesh conditions, namely, the conditions of \textit{P. Jamet} [SIAM J.Numer. Anal. 14, 925--930 (1977; Zbl 0383.65009)], \textit{G. Acosta} and \textit{R. G. Duran} [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 38, 1073--1088 (2000; Zbl 0981.65124)], and \textit{E. Süli} [Math. Comput. 59, 359--382 (1992; Zbl 0767.65072)]. It is shown theoretically that these conditions shape the regular mesh conditions. A number of interesting examples is given for illustration and validity of theorems.
