An optimal control problem associated with a system of a parabolic variational inequalities coupled with a semilinear parabolic differential equation is studied. The maximum principle for the considered control problem is obtained. An application to this problem, i.e., the indirect obstacle problem, is presented. The last section deals with some kind of approximate controllability for the indirect obstacle problem.
