The author has studied the Einstein equations for a spherically symmetric static distribution of elastic matter. The solution obtained is singular at the centre. However, the existence of a regular solution near the centre is shown based on the result of \textit{A. D. Rendall} and \textit{B. G. Schmidt} [Classassical Quantum Gravity 8, 985-1000 (1991; Zbl 0724.53055)].
