In this long and interesting paper, the authors describe a number of methods of constructing probability measures on spaces of homeomorphisms, which are natural in the sense that they have a number of invariance properties. The main purpose of this paper is to develop the theory of a method of producing such measures on a homeomorphism group and on the flows of the unit interval. This method is related to that of \textit{L. E. Dubins} and \textit{D. A. Freedman} [Proc. 5th Berkeley Sympos. Math. Statist. Probab. Univ. Calif. 1965/1966, 2, Part 1, 183-214 (1967; Zbl 0201.495)] for constructing random distribution functions. Among other things, they characterize certain probability measures as unique fixed points of amalgamation operators and discuss derivatives and fixed points of random homeomorphisms. They also mention a list of 19 open problems.
