This paper is devoted to the uniform stabilization and controllability of the solution of the wave equation in bounded regions. In a rather comprehensive survey, the authors try to place this work in the general context of existing literature. Geometrical conditions that were assumed in prior literature are eliminated with both Dirichlet and Neumann types of boundary conditions. To prove the uniform stabilization, they use a combination of classical multiplier techniques and some properties of pseudodifferential analysis. The latter permits the transformation of the original problem to a problem of lower order. The authors claim that their methods are applicable to fourth-order problems, but they do not claim that their results are the most general.
