Based on \textit{G. A. Freiman}'s theorem [Foundations of a structural theory of set addition. Translation from Russian. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1973; Zbl 0271.10044)], \textit{J. Herzog} at el. [On the number of generators of powers of an ideal, Int. J. Algebra Comput. 29, No. 5, 827--847 (2019; Zbl 1423.13105)] proved that, for any equigenerated monomial ideal \(I\), we have \(\mu(I^2) \ge \ell(I)\mu(I)-\binom{\ell(I)}{2}\), where \(\mu(I)\) is the least number of generators of \(I\) and \(\ell(I)\) is the analytic spread of \(I\). An equigenerated monomial ideal \(I\) is called \textit{Freiman} if the equality holds in the above inequality. It is known [\textit{J. Herzog} et al., Math. Z. 291, 3--4, 999--1014 (2019; Zbl 1412.13025)] that \(I\) is Freiman if and only if the fiber cone of \(I\) is Cohen-Macaulay and its defining ideal has a \(2\)-linear resolution. Using this fact, the authors show that a sortable ideal \(I\) is Freiman if and only if its sorted graph is chordal. They apply this characterization for giving a complete classification of Freiman principal Borel ideals and of Freiman Veronese-type ideals with constant bound.
