In this short note the author derives in an elementary way three basic results related with the Routh-Hurwitz theory for assessing stability of a continuous-time polynomial (i.e. conditions under which the roots of a polynomial all belong to the open left half-plane), namely: (1) the Hermite-Biehler theorem; (2) the Routh-Hurwitz criterion; (3) the total positivity of the Hurwitz matrix. The only result instrumental to these derivations is the root interlacing property.
