Verf. gibt verschärfte Abschätzungen für die Restglieder in der \textit{Hardy-Ramanujan}schen Formel (Proc. London math. Soc. (2) 17 (1917), 75-115; F.~d.~M. 46, 198) \[ p(n)=\frac{\sqrt{12}}{24n-1}\sum_{k=1}^N\frac{A_k(n)}{\sqrt k} \left(1-\frac k\mu\right)e^{\frac\mu k}+R_1(n,N) \] und in der \textit{Rademacher}schen Formel (Proc. London math. Soc. (2) 43 (1937), 241-254; F.~d.~M. 63\(_{\text{I}}\), 140) \[ p(n)=\frac{\sqrt{12}}{24n-1}\sum_{k=1}^N\frac{A_k(n)}{\sqrt k} \left\{\left(1-\frac k\mu\right)e^{\frac\mu k}+ \left(1+\frac k\mu\right)e^{-\frac\mu k}\right\}+R_2(n,N). \] Hier ist \(p(n)\) die Anzahl der Zerlegungen der natürlichen Zahl \(n\) in positive Summanden \(A_k(n)\) ist eine gewisse Summe von 24 \(k\)-ten Einheitswurzeln und \(\mu=\dfrac16\pi\sqrt{24n-1}\). Verf. beweist: \[ R_i(n,\alpha\sqrt n)=O(n^{-\frac12}\log n)\qquad(i=1,2)\tag{1} \] (durch Verf. war bisher nur \(O(n^{-\frac13})\) bekannt in Trans. Amer. math. Soc. 43 (1938), 271-295; Bull. Amer. math. Soc. 44 (1938), 84-90; F.~d.~M. 64\(_{\text{I}}\); 120,122); (2) entsprechende Verschärfungen in der Abschätzung von \(R_i(n,N)\) für allgemeines \(N\); (3) für kein positives oder negatives \(n\) ist \(A_k(n)\cdot k^{-\frac12}\) beschränkt. Dies hat zur Folge: Für jedes \(n\) gibt es unendlich viele \(k\), derart, daß das \(k\)-te Glied in der Rademacherschen Reihe größer als \(\dfrac{43}{34}k^{-2}\) ist.
