The authors consider the problem of cathodic protection being used for prevention of corrosion in ships. The governing mathematical model is a nonlinear exterior potential problem. It is shown how an approximate solution of the problem may be obtained by the boundary element method. As an illustration of the method, calculations are carried out on a particular ship, and the results are compared with experiment.
