This paper investigates theoretically the very interesting problem of electrostatic breakdown of a charged drop in an external electric field. The mathematical procedure is one of a linearised instability analysis. The model is based on a Navier-Stokes fluid with electric field input through the body force together with appropriate free surface boundary conditions on the fluid drop.
