The existence of eigenvalues \(\alpha\) corresponding to positive eigenfunctions is studied for nonlinear time independent Schrödinger equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions. This is done using general potential-theoretic methods and, consequently, within the framework of harmonic spaces. In the classical case such an equation can be written as \(\frac 12\Delta h-h\varphi(\cdot,h)\mu+\alpha\psi(\cdot,h)\nu=0\) on \(U\), \(h=0\) on \(\partial U\) (\(U\) being a bounded domain in \(\mathbb R^n\), \(\psi\geq 0\)). Under suitable assumptions on \(\varphi,\psi\) involving local bounds by Kato functions it is shown that the set of eigenvalues is an interval.
