The author studies the classical Wiener-Hopf integral equation in Hölder spaces, Zygmund spaces, Besov spaces, and in spaces of Bessel potentials with exponential weights on the half-axis. Using factorization theorems for new classes of symbols, he obtains results on Fredholmness, index and smoothness of solutions with respect to those scales of function spaces. This generalizes considerably previous results of the reviewer [Math. Nachr. 146, 271-321 (1990; Zbl 0709.65117)].
