The concepts of group decision making, particularly majority, are reanalyzed and extended using the formalism of fuzzy sets. The proposed framework relies heavily on a fuzzy logic based calculus of linguistic propositions involving linguistic quantifiers. The emerging algorithms can be categorized as falling into one of two categories, called a direct or indirect approach. In the direct approach the individual fuzzy preference relations are utilized to derive a solution. The indirect approach combines these fuzzy relations first and subsequently the solution is computed. The methods call for an extension of some basic solution concepts (namely, the core for the direct approach and the consensus winner for the second one) that is carried out with the aid of fuzzy majority expressed by linguistic quantifiers.
