A finite group \(G\) is said to be \textit{c-supersoluble} or \(SC\)-group if every chief factor of \(G\) is simple. This class naturally extends the one of of all finite supersoluble groups and plays an important role in the structural study of finite groups by means of the theory of classes of groups. The main goal of the paper under review is to introduce and study another interesting class of finite groups, namely, the one of widely c-supersoluble groups, and study its main properties. A finite group \(G\) is said to be \textit{w-supersoluble} if every Sylow subgroup \(H\) of \(G\) can be joined to \(G\) by means a chain of subgroups \(H = H_0 < H_1 < \cdots <H_n = G\) such that \(H_{i-1}\) has prime index in \(H_i\) for all \(i\). \(G\) is said to be \textit{widely c-supersoluble} if every non-abelian chief factor of \(G\) is simple, and the semidirect product \([H/K](G/C_G(H/K)\) is w-supersoluble for every abelian chief factor \(H/K\) of \(G\). The first interesting result of the paper is that the class of all widely c-supersoluble finite groups is a solubly saturated formation (or composition formation) which is closed under taking normal subgroups (Theorem A). The second main result provides a very useful characterization of the groups in that class (Theorem B). As a consequence, we have that every finite widely c-supersoluble group is an extension of a quasinilpotent group by a w-supersoluble group. The last main result of the paper (Theorem C) studies mutually permutable products of widely c-supersoluble groups and confirms the nice behaviour of these products with respect to this class. The interesting fact that a finite group which is a mutually permutable product of two SC-subgroups is necessarily widely c-supersoluble is a direct consequence of that result.
