Damped and non-damped oscillations of suspension bridges is considered. The behaviour of suspension bridges is simplified assuming either (i) the standard Bernoulli theory of beams combined with a unilateral response of cable stays or (ii) a coupling of the system beam-string. On the basis of Banach contraction theorem, the author found sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of a solution to both models mentioned above.
