This paper considers optimal power flow in power generation, with the objective of determining the optimal setting for generating units. The approach has two main parts, the first of which is the development of a genetic algorithm designed to arrive at a feasible solution, subject to the desired load constraints. The second part then uses this algorithm to arrive at an optimal solution. By way of application, a six bus system is analyzed to show the effectiveness of the approach.
