In the paper under review, the author classifies the blow-ups of three-dimensional singularities of type \(cA\) with exceptional divisor being irreducible and discrepancy 1. Some background: A minimal model (i.e., the canonical divisor is nef) has terminal singularities (when \(\dim X = 2\), terminal is equivalent to smooth). A three-dimensional projective variety either has a minimal model or has a Fano fibration, according to the minimal model conjecture (Theorem of Mori et al.). So one needs to classify those singularities. Such classification is available only up to analytic isomorphisms [see, e.g. \textit{S. Mori}, Nagoya Math. J. 98, 43--66 (1985; Zbl 0589.14005)]. A finer classification is being done by many authors (taking into the consideration of its desingualization) \(f : Y \rightarrow X\). The case of cyclic quotient singularities, Gorenstein singularities, \(cA_1\) (compound Du Val type \(A_1\) according to Reid), and \(cDv\) have been considered by Kawamata, Mori, Cutkovsky, Luo, Kawakita, Markushevich and Hayakawa. In this paper, the author considers a case of \(cA\) as mentioned at the beginning.
