This paper is concerned with the mathematical foundations for homogenized models of thermoelastic-anelastic periodic composites under large strains and large temperature gradients. The approach is based on a rigorous description of the fine periodicity in nonhomogeneous materials, which assumes that the body can be approximated by infinitely small periodic cells, and nonstandard analysis. The fields of motion, temperature and internal state variables are further approximated as the sum of macroscopic and microlocal parts by introducing appropriate shape functions. Then the constitutive relations and weak forms of the balance equations lead to the field equations of the homogenized body. Although the approach is somewhat similar to the one which was employed in deriving many effective theories of composite materials the use of nonstandard analysis makes the concept of infinitesimal cells much more meaningful.
