The authors state the main results and methods of their two papers [Differ. Equations 31, No. 8, 1253-1266 (1995); translation from Differ. Uravn. 31, No. 8, 1310-1322 (1995; Zbl 0863.34080) and Differ. Equations 31, No. 10, 1613-1621 (1995); translation from Differ. Uravn. 31, No. 10, 1649-1657 (1995; Zbl 0865.34069)]. The one-dimensional Schrödinger operator \({\mathcal L} u=u''+q(x)u\) on the real line is considered, and particularly the special case of the Hill operator, i.e. a periodic potential \(q\). The main aim is to derive uniform estimates for the convergence of spectral expansions. The first theorem states uniform equiconvergence with the Fourier integral expansion: Theorem 1. Let \(p\in[1,2]\) and \(f\in L_p(\mathbb{R})\). If \(\sigma_\lambda(x,f)\) denotes the spectral expansion of \(f\) related to the selfadjoint representation \(\mathcal L\) of the Hill operator and \(S_\lambda(x,f)\) denotes the Fourier integral expansion of \(f\), then \[ \lim_{\lambda\to\infty}| \sigma_\lambda(x,f)-S_\lambda(x,f)| =0 \] uniformly with respect to \(x\) over the real line \(\mathbb{R}\). The authors note that this extends to a general Schrödinger operator with bounded measurable potential \(q\). The second theorem deals with the convergence towards the given function: Theorem 2. Let the potential \(q\) be bounded and measurable. Let \(f\) be in the Sobolev-Liouville class \(L_2^\alpha(\mathbb{R})\), \(\alpha\in (\frac 12,2]\). Then \[ | \sigma_\lambda(x,f)-f(x)| =\lambda^{1/4-\alpha/2}\cdot o(1) \] uniformly for \(x\in \mathbb{R}\) as \(\lambda\to\infty\). For the Mathieu-Hill operator, \(q(x)=\beta\cos(\gamma x)\), the restriction \(\alpha\leq 2\) can be removed.
