This interesting paper concerns the fourth-order parabolic equation \[ \partial_t u=\varepsilon u- (1+\nu\partial^2_x)^2 u- u^3,\quad 0< x<\pi \] with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. It is shown that for all \(-1/\sqrt{3}< \delta_1< \delta_2< 1/\sqrt{3}\) there exists \(\varepsilon_0> 0\) such that for all \(n\in\mathbb{N}\) and \[ 0< \varepsilon< \varepsilon_0\quad\text{and}\quad {1+\delta_1\sqrt{\varepsilon}\over n}< \nu< {1+ \delta_2\sqrt{\varepsilon}\over n}\tag{1} \] there exist \(2n\) distinct asymptotically stable stationary solutions. Moreover, there are presented numerical results concerning such solutions for parameters \(\varepsilon\) and \(\nu\) beyond the limitations (1). Similar results hold for periodic boundary conditions. Finally, the authors formulate some remarks concerning phenomena like celluarity, maximum amplitude principle and fluctuating chaos.
