Let a nonsingular matrix pencil A-\(\lambda\) B be given. \textit{G. W. Stewart} [SIAM Rev. 15, 727-764 (1973; Zbl 0297.65030)] introduced the concept of a deflation pair to the matrix pair (A,B) which can be seen as a generalization of an invariant subspace of a matrix. In the paper, residual error bounds of approximate deflation pairs of the pencil are discussed.
