The authors present some new design algorithms for linear time-varying systems with real parametric uncertainties. The main advantage of their approach is due to the use of skew symmetric matrices, which leads to a reduction of the inherent conservatism of the scaled \(H_\infty\) techniques. For the state feedback design the problem is numerically tractable because of its convexity while it looses this property in the case of the output feedback problem. In this case the authors propose an observer based approach that guarantees stability and disturbance attenuation results similar to those for state feedback controllers. The methodology is illustrated by numerical and simulation studies using a standard LMI software.
