Using the ideas of the theory of dual pairs, the authors give the procedure of how to decompose explicitly the n-fold tensor product space generated by a given irreducible representation of U(N) (or, equivalently, GL(N,\({\mathbb{C}}))\) into irreducible representations of U(N) (GL(N,\({\mathbb{C}}))\) times reducible representations of \(S_ n\). In general, the decomposition of \(S_ n\times GL(N,{\mathbb{C}})\)-modules is not multiplicity-free, and all known formulae describing this multiplicity, are rather complicated, especially in the case of large enough n. The authors derive the new one which looks easier to be adapted computationally by using the technique of \(S_ n\)-invariant differential operators. Few examples illustrate this method.
