Let \(\mathcal{L}\) be a lattice in \(\mathbb{Z}^{n}\) with \(\dim( \mathcal{L})=m\). For \(u\in \mathbb{N}^{n}\), define \(P_{u}:= \text{conv}\{v\in \mathbb{N}^{n}| u-v\in \mathcal{L\}}\). Each \(P_{u}\) is a rational polyhedron and so has finitely many vertices \(\text{Vert}(P_{u})\). The union of all \( \text{Vert}(P_{u})\) forms an order ideal of \(\mathbb{N}^{n}\). Let \(S=k[x_{1},\ldots ,x_{n}]\). Then the vertex ideal \(V_{\mathcal{L}}\) of \(\mathcal{L}\) defined by \(x^{v}\notin V_{\mathcal{L}}\) if and only if \(v\in \text{Vert}(P_{u})\) for a fiber \(P_{u}\) of \(\mathcal{L}\) is a monomial ideal of \(S\). Minimal generators for \(V_{\mathcal{L}}\) are given and the radical of \(V_{\mathcal{L} }\) is determined\(.\) The associated primes of \(V_{\mathcal{L}}\) are investigated and an irreducible primary decomposition for \(V_{\mathcal{L}}\) is given. Several other ideals associated with \(\mathcal{L}\) are studied.
