A weakly convex fuzzy set is defined as a genaralisation of a convex fuzzy set. A fuzzy set \(\mu :\mathbb R^n \to [0,1]\) is defined as weakly convex if for all \(x,y\) in the support of \(\mu\) there is a \(\lambda \in (0,1)\) such that \(\mu (\lambda x + (1- \lambda) y) \geq \lambda \mu (x) + (1- \lambda) \mu (y)\), i.e., \(\lambda\) depends on \(x, y\). A fuzzy set is weakly quasi-convex if the right-hand side of the above inequality is replaced by \(\min \{ \mu (x), \mu (y) \}\). In a natural way weakly convex and weakly quasi-convex mappings are defined. Equivalent conditions for fuzzy sets and fuzzy mappings to be weakly convex or weakly quasi-convex are given in terms of their hypographs and epigraphs.
