Starting from tensorial expressions, the authors obtain equivalent material expressions either numerically or symbolically, by using a class of mappings parametrized by a variable \(\eta\) conveniently taken between to 1 and \(\sqrt 2\). The approach is applied to scalar second- and fourth-order tensors, double contractions, inversions, and transpositions. It is demonstrated that the mappings considered are invariant and do not depend on the physical interpretation of tensors. Some considerations for Wu's tensor are presented as examples.
