Let \(\phi(z)\) (resp. \(\psi(z)\)) be an arbitrary transcendental meromorphic solution to the first (resp. second) Painlevé equation. The author proves that if \(g(z)\) is small with respect to \(\phi(z)\) (resp. \(\psi(z)\))) then the deficiency \(\delta(g,\phi)\) (resp. \(\delta(g,\varphi))\leq{1\over 2}\). Furthermore, the ramification index \(\vartheta(a,\phi)\leq{5\over 12}\), moreover, for every complex number \(a\in C\), \(\vartheta(a,\phi)\leq {1\over 6}\).
