A monoid S is called absolutely flat if all its S-sets are flat. A characterization of the absolute flatness of a monoid S was given by \textit{V. Fleischer} [Uch. Zap. Tartu Gos. Univ. 610, 38-52 (1982; Zbl 0537.20039)]. In the paper an alternative, more direct proof of this theorem is given and this result is used to show that the multiplicative monoid of any semisimple Artinian ring is absolutely free.
