Burge introduced the idea of establishing correspondences between sets of partitions and a certain set of binary words in order to prove the authors' generalizations of Rogers-Ramanujan identities. The number being partitioned corresponding to the major index of the word. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how this viewpoint leads to simple proofs of partition identities which on the one side count partitions in which parts are restricted to certain congruence classes. This leads to new identities such as the generalization of Göllnitz-Gordon identities.
