The author studies the system \[ \epsilon \tau u_ t=\epsilon^ 2u_{xx}+f(u,v),\quad v_ t=v_{xx}+g(u,v) \] and shows that there are three specially constant steady states \((E_{\pm},E_ 0):\) two of them \((E_{\pm})\) are stable, while one \((E_ 0)\) is unstable. This paper is a continuation of two earlier papers by the author and he refers to them in his proofs here. Using the matching method in singular perturbation a travelling wave solution is constructed. The author defines an index of the heterocline orbit which corresponds to the travelling wave solution of the above system and shows that the index corresponds in a one-to-one manner to the sign of the Jacobian of the matching condition and concluding that when the index of the orbit \(=-1\), the travelling wave solution corresponding to that orbit is unstable while index of the orbit \(=1\) is a necessary condition to be stable.
