Let \((W,R)\) be a Coxeter system, where \(R\) is a Coxeter generating set. The set of reflections in a Coxeter group is not always determined by the abstract group \(W\). The authors investigate when \(W\) determines the set of reflections. Their main result is the following theorem. Let \((W,R)\) be a Coxeter system of finite rank. Then the following holds. a) For each \(r\in R\) the finite continuation of \(r\) can be described. b) Given an involution \(w\in W\) such that \(\text{FC}(w)=\langle w\rangle\), then \(w\in R^W\). The description of a) is quite involved. The symbol \(\text{FC}(w)\) stands for the finite continuation of \(w\) which is defined to be the intersection of all maximal finite subgroups containing it.
