The author considers the design of cutting tools for a numerically controlled (NC) milling process which shapes a given freeform surface. For better efficiency the curvature of the tool surface should not differ too much from the curvature of the surface to be shaped. Owing to many degrees of freedom and the nature of the equations governing surface curvature, the corresponding set of inequalities discussed in the paper seems unsuitable for actual applications. This is also remarked by the author.
