    Frameworks, composed of rigid rods and rotatable joints, can be considered as networks where the concepts of modelling and interconnection play the central role. Some combinatorial tools of electric network theory (mainly graphs and matroids) are applied to obtain new results for frameworks, among others some polynomial conditions for rigidity of frameworks with various tie-down structures. [Parts II and III are described in the following reviews.]
