The problem of quantization of polynomial classical observables is studied. An approach proposed in this paper allows one to quantize a wide class of functions that are polynomials of any order in the momenta. The method is applied to the quantization of a scalar particle in curved space-time. The author used the geometric quantization procedure proposed earlier by Kirillov, Kostant and Souriau.
