In this paper boundary value problems for coupled systems of elliptic partial differential equations are numerically solved by a two parameter point SOR method. In particular, the biharmonic problem and the Navier- Stokes problem (in stream function-vorticity formulation) are considered. For the biharmonic problem, it is shown that the region of parameters leading to convergence is asymptotically larger for the point SOR method than for the classical block SOR method. A heuristic optimization of the parameters is suggested for the point SOR method. Numerical experiments for the cavity driven problem (with four different boundary discretizations) show a superiority of the proposed method to the block SOR method.
