Spatial decay estimates are derived for two dynamical problems with damping for cylindrical bars of finite extend, one plane end of which is subjected to an excitation harmonic in time. These estimates represent dynamical counterparts of the estimates related to the classical St.- Venant principle. One problem concerns the linearly damped wave under self-equilibrated oscillating axial input at one end. The other concerns a linearly elastic damped cylinder subjected to prescribed ocillating displacements at one end. In both cases damping gives rise ultimatively to a steady state oscillation. An exponential decay of activity away from the excited end is proved under the condition that the exciting frequency does not exceed a critical value.
