Let \(X\) be a countable set. The author shows that every pre-order on \(X\) has a maximal complement in the lattice of pre-orders on \(X\) and hence, that every Alexandroff-Tucker topology on \(X\) has a maximal complement in the lattice of topologies on \(X\). This answers a question of \textit{S. Watson} [ibid. 55, 101--125 (1994; Zbl 0797.54001)]. Further, the author shows that the usual order on \(\omega_1\) does not admit a maximal complement in the lattice of pre-orders on \(\omega_1\).
