The question of characterizing sign patterns that allow diagonalizability is still open. In this paper sufficient conditions (five) are found for sign patterns \(A\) allowing diagonalizability. The necessary conditions for allowing diagonalizability found by \textit{C. A. Eschenbach} and \textit{C. R. Johnson} [Linear Algebra Appl. 190, 169-179 (1993; Zbl 0795.15008)] (a conjecture) are discussed. Two counterexamples are presented.
