Investigation of two-dimensional nonlinear dynamical systems, connected via the Lax-type representation with the local part of an arbitrary graded Lie algebra, is performed on the basis of the general algebraic construction [cf. \textit{A. N. Leznov} and \textit{M. V. Saveliev}, Commun. Math. Phys. 74, 111-118 (1980; Zbl 0429.35063); ibid. 89, 59-76 (1983)]. The systems under consideration include as a simplest case (in the class of simple finite- and infinite-dimensional (of finite growth) Lie algebras) the generalized two-dimensional Toda lattice. General solutions (in the sense of Goursat) to the equations characterized by a certain number of arbitrary functions are constructed. For the illustration of their structure the authors consider in detail the ''string''-type systems related to a definite embedding of a three-dimensional subalgebra into the algebra \(B_ n\). Geometrical interpretation of the corresponding equations is also discussed.
