The author gives a Wiener criterion for thinness in terms of balayaged functions, in a P-Brelot space with a countable base, assuming that the axioms of proportionality and of polarity hold, that the constant 1 is superharmonic, and that the Green function is identically infinite on the diagonal and satisfies a technical inequality. He then formulates the result in terms of the suitably chosen distance function, and shows that it can be applied to certain Lie groups. Application to the Heisenberg group is discussed in some detail.
