The authors are concerned with the stress field around an interface crack between dissimilar materials. Theocaris' stress functions, which are restricted to use only in the case where the shear moduli and Poisson ratios of the materials satisfy a certain condition, are improved so that they can be used for the materials with arbitrary shear moduli and Poisson ratios. By using those improved stress functions, the energy release rate for the extension of the crack, as well as the singular stress and displacement fields around the tip of the crack, are obtained.
