    The main results of the paper are the following. Theorem 1. For any set of numbers \({\mathcal P}\subset {\mathbb{N}}\) and for an arbitrary compactum X with \(c\)-\(\dim_{{\mathbb{Z}}_ p}X\leq n\) for all \(p\in {\mathcal P}\), there exists an n-dimensional compactum Z and a surjection \(f: Z\to X\) with \(\check {\;}^{\sim*}(f^{-1}(x);{\mathbb{Z}}_ p)=0\) for all \(p\in {\mathcal P}\). Here \(c\)-\(\dim_{{\mathbb{Z}}_ p}X\) is the cohomological dimension of X with \({\mathbb{Z}}_ p={\mathbb{Z}}/p{\mathbb{Z}}\) as coefficients. Theorem 2. For any \(m=3,4,...,\infty\) and any \({\mathcal P}\subset {\mathbb{N}}\) there exists an m-dimensional compactum M which is a 3-dimensional manifold over \({\mathbb{Z}}_ p\) for all \(p\in {\mathcal P}\).
