This work is concerned with the study of small motions of an isotropic homogeneous nonlocal elastic infinite body. By assuming appropriate smoothness conditions at infinity, the field equations are reduced to a simple set of linear integro-differential equations depending on two material kernels. The body is set into motion by a body force distributed over a compact spatial region whose amplitude varies with time and is switched on at a given instant. By employing Fourier transform and its convolution properties on spatial and temporal variables, the field equations are reduced to algebraic equations in transformed quantities which can be solved easily. The amplitude function of the Fourier transform of the temporal part of the body force is so restricted that the body force is of oscillatory form with a transient part. Several asymptotic solutions (large time, far field) are then obtained by detailed asymptotic analysis of Fourier transforms.
