Let \(\Sigma\) be a surface in a \(4\)-dimensional Riemannian manifold \(M\). The adjunction number \(a_M(\Sigma)\) is defined to be the sum \(\chi(T\Sigma)+\chi(N\Sigma)\), where \(N\Sigma\) denotes the normal bundle of \(\Sigma\). The authors study the adjunction number \(a_M(\Sigma)\) of a minimal surface \(\Sigma\) in a symplectic \(4\)-manifold \(M\).
