The concept of matrix factorizations, introduced by \textit{D. Eisenbud} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 260, 35--64 (1980; Zbl 0444.13006)] for elements in commutative rings, particularly focuses on hypersurface rings. It explains how every minimal free resolution in such rings corresponds to a matrix factorization over the ambient regular ring. This article is devoted to presenting a categorical construction of \(d\)-fold matrix factorizations for even integers, recapturing Eisenbud's classical notion as well as other recent notions in the literature. Moreover, the authors show that the collection of such objects naturally forms an algebraic triangulated category and study natural triangle functors between this triangulated category of matrix factorizations and other well-known triangulated categories. In the case that \(d = 2\), these functors are full and faithful, and in some contexts, equivalences. Finally, some examples are provided to illustrate new sources of concrete matrix factorizations.
