Let \(G\) be a real Lie group with finitely many connected components, such that its Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\) is reductive and there is a connected closed subgroup of \(G\) with finite center, whose Lie algebra is \([\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g}]\). If \(F\) is a finite dimensional irreducible representation of \(G\), denote by \(r_{G,F}\) the smallest integer such that the continuous group cohomology \(\mathrm{H}_{\mathrm{ct}}^{r_{G,F}}(G; F\otimes \pi)\) is non-zero for some infinite dimensional irreducible unitary representation \(\pi\) of \(G\), if such an integer exists; otherwise \(r_{G,F}=\infty\). The smallest possible \(r_{G,F}\), when \(F\) takes all possibilities, is denoted by \(r_G\). Let \(P\) be a proper parabolic subgroup of \(G\), \(N\) its unipotent radical and \(L=P/N\). In the main result of the paper, the authors show that if \(\nu\) is a positive character of \(L\) satisfying a certain property (\(\nu\) is called dominant), \(\sigma\) is an irreducible unitarizable Casselman-Wallach representation of \(L\), and \(F\) is a finite dimensional irreducible representation of \(G\), then \(\mathrm{H}_{\mathrm{ct}}^i(G; F\otimes \mathrm{Ind}^G_P(\nu \otimes \sigma))=0\) for all \(i<r_G\). As an application, certain low degree cohomologies of congruence groups are determined.
