    The authors consider the reaction-diffusion system \[ \partial u/\partial t= \partial^2u/\partial x^2+ u(1-u-cv),\quad \partial v/\partial t= d\partial^2 v/\partial x^2+ v(a- bu-v), \] where \(u= u(x,t)\), \(v= v(x,t)\) represent population densities of two competing species which move by diffusion; \(a\), \(b\), \(c\), \(d\) are some positive constants. Under some parameter restrictions, explicit formulas for travelling and standing wave solutions \((u,v)(x, t)= (U,V)(z)\), \(z= x-\theta t\) (\(\theta\) is the propagation speed) with the boundary conditions \((U,V)(-\infty)= (0,a)\), \((U,V)(\infty)= (1,0)\), are obtained.
