Using simple Rankine sources and mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) time marching scheme, the author investigates in detail the three-dimensional fully nonlinear interaction between monochromatic waves and steady current, as well as wave-body and wave-current-body interactions. The initial-boundary value problem is governed by Laplace equation which is solved at each time-step, and time-dependent nonlinear free-surface boundary conditions are simultaneously integrated by the MEL method. A piston-type wave maker is used for generating the incident waves, and a steady current is imposed everywhere in the computational domain at \(t=0\). Numerical computations are performed for the nonlinear diffraction of monochromatic waves by a truncated vertical cylinder in the presence of steady uniform current and without this current. The author makes a serious attempt to justify the validity of the numerical model used in this paper. This paper reveals a clear picture of nonlinear contribution resulting from different parameters. Extensive computational experiments are carried out on propagation of nonlinear water waves with various wave stepness, wavelength, wave height and water depth. It is shown that the main contribution comes from the first harmonic, the second largest contribution is generated by the second harmonic, and so on. The higher frequency contribution increases with increasing wave steepness. This is an interesting paper that deals basically with the nonlinear effects in the current-wave-body interactions.
