The author of this paper characterizes abelian varieties \(A\) defined over a finite field \(\mathbb{F}\!_q\) such that the \(\mathbb{F}\!_q\)-isogeny class of \(A\) contains a single \(\mathbb{F}\!_q\)-isomorphism class. Such varieties are called super-isolated. The main result states that for a fixed \(g \ge 3\), there are only finitely many super-isolated ordinary simple abelian varieties of dimension \(g\) over all finite fields \(\mathbb{F}\!_q\). The proof of this result is an application of Honda-Tate theory, and it relies on counting Weil generators. This paper is actually a self-contained version of a chapter of the author's PhD thesis. Indeed, he starts by recalling some standard results in algebraic number theory, and he introduces Weil numbers and Weil generators. Then, he outlines an algorithm to enumerate Weil generators in a given number field. The main result concerning Weil generators is the computation of the number of Weil generators of bounded height in a given complex multiplication (CM) field \(\mathbf{K}\) (depending on the degree of \(\mathbf{K}\)). At the end of the paper, the results on Weil generators are used to study super-isolated varieties.
